I’d suggest that Diamond’s brain, or most of it, is still in there. Having the horse’s brain coordinate movement, reflexes and some trained behaviors is essential in an era that obviously hasn’t mastered integrated circuits yet. The legs and torso look mostly augmented or replaced, but I’d place a dollar on there being a horse brain in that mechanical body, and possibly some rudimentary organs just to keep it alive.
I am spending a small amount of time musing about fuel for such a “horse” and just don’t know what it would need or how much of it. There’s a suggestion of steam and therefore coal? when and how do you reload?? leaving that aside though, I am super impressed to see Vane being discreet!
I think that’s what’s happening here actually. Diamonds’ pressure gauges look low, as is the water in the sightglasses on the “dashboard” actually and I think he’s headed into this little coal shed to eat(?)
