He’s draped along the back of Hunter’s horse.

You do not understand how “the calm before the storm” trope works. See, his friend comes first and will be buried.

Then there will be blood and fire.

Normally I would think so, but it seems like we only have one page left before this story ends.

Well then. I take it back . . . that one punch in the mouth was justified.

    The sorrow wells up
Behind the gates of the closed mouth
String around the heart, rope around the pup
    Once happy, now saddened youth.

    Away from here, away,
Hooves clobbering on the rocky road,
    Only the blue eyes stay,
    Something, something to goad.

Forgive thine enemies and you shall heap burning coals upon their heads …
Better than literally burning him, actually … or at least I hope so.

Guys I’ll more formally announce this in this week’s update but I may have inadvertently lied: Book 9 isn’t starting for two more weeks. I thought Watering Hole was going to be 21 pages (it was never thumbnailed) but it’s actually shaking out as 22. Remote possibility I can do 22 as a sort of midweek thing and then start Book 9 next week but it is very remote.

While I have enjoyed reading this (all in one day), I find it uncomfortable that you literally kill or maim every single animal in this story. Enough that I am considering not finishing it. Every. Animal.
