‘Cept the dog didn’t go free and willingly, now did he? Some people are a bit fuzzy on that little “consent” concept. Not to mention the whole bodily harm thing.
So, JHH became fixated on resurrection and stopped caring about people because some asshole murdered his dog? That might actually be one of the best motivations I’ve ever heard. It would certainly work for me.
Remember, if this west is like that West, Hunter has lowered the daughter’s available mates significantly, going foreward, far more than he would have these days. What owner of a ranch would want a son to marry someone unstable in her affections – the elements are difficult enough to rely upon.
Has the old fool even considered having her checked by a midwife before jumping to conclusions? Even overprotective misogynistic cultures have common sense protocols. I sure didn’t see any sex, just courtship, if rather immodest courtship. Worthy of suspicion and investigation by those standards, sure, but he didn’t even bother with that!
I’d just like to point out that the whole ‘check to see if a girl is still a virgin’ thing is a crock of bullshit. Similar to the idea that if a girl doesn’t bleed the first time, she’s not a virgin. The only reason a woman bleeds during sex is either because she’s menstruating or her partner is being so rough as to actually cause her to bleed. There’s no physical ‘barrier’ to be broken. So unless you’re suggesting that JHH had sex with her so roughly as to cause her to bleed and therefore leave signs for a midwife to find, having her ‘checked’ would avail her (and/or her family) nothing. Unless they bribed the midwife, I guess.
Just read through the whole archive today. Phenomenal work! 🙂 I must say I’m sad that not one, but two dogs died in this story. >< It's so sad, the animals really get the short end of the stick in this tale. I'm surprised not as many people died along with them, what with all the disorder and chaos the protagonists bring with them everywhere.
Fabulous writing, gorgeous GORGEOUS intricate artwork, very compelling story. Keep up the fantastic work. This is one hellova comic.
Umm.. think there’s a wee bit of difference between those two things, buddy..
Not sure I’ve ever rooted for JHH to kill someone before, but I sure am now.

Tomorrow’s big reveal: Henry Hunter is his middle name. John Henry Hunter… Wick.
Slow down there cowboy, you’ve just burned down someone’s house in revenge for eating the last cupcake.
I could understand if he was mad about the hand – maybe even the glove if it was really nice and he sold the family fortune for it – but this???

RyGuy has a point … actually, several, and even if I understand his hurt, the rancher is a jerk – worse, actually.
