I only noticed that the writer’s wicked talons are pen nibs now, with that up-close panel 3 shot. I thought they were just long, fine-tipped animal claws all this time that could just write well.
I went through the past updates and while this was visible upon close examination I think it would have been better for the story had the pen nib talons been explicitly and closely shown even before. As a fantasy/horror/sci-fi reader, I’m not unused to characters with animal talons- but discovering they’re pen nibs is actually unnerving me. It’s grotesque in wonderfully brand new way.
I think this should have been made most apparent as soon as the writer made his first wish just to set the tone of the story, to really drive in the gravitas of the situation, to show the power of the voodoo demon.
I bet he starts peeling his own skin for paper, or scribbling all over it. But then again, he’s used up his three wishes, his three parts of soul. No more requests. There’s nothing else he can do. He should have thought to use the blood he was born with instead of turning it to ink. But then again, he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Brilliant. Even if we all knew it was coming to this, it’s still brilliant. The character transformation is totally awesome; it sure shows how the author has gradually lost his soul.
I agree with all those who say next step is running out of paper, back to square #1 but without a soul to bargain with. That must surely be hell to an author: having almost everything he needs to keep writing like forever, but for one thing…
I love the way you can see the ink-blood coming from his cuticles, and not just from some undetermined point. I agree with the running out of paper, and if I were him in the first place, I would have just wished for unlimited writing supplies, and not just whatever I ran out of first, but I hope I am never in his situation.
I Knew something like this was going to happen I mean seriously, one does not simply get away from a demon.
Any born-again Christian has authority over demons. Christ gave that to us.
Oh, god the terrible pun, it burns.
bled to death by morning?
So, would a band-aid be considered writer’s-block?
Love the transformation from his original form to what he is now. Especially in panel 5, he looks quite sinister, almost like a true monster.
Sweat and blood. Heh.
I can see what’s going to happen! this is why I use pencils
Cause of death: exinkuination.
*Applause*
That is a least a three star pun sir! I’m sure that when the police find the body they will have no inkling of how he died.
I don’t care what anyone says – this man is going to die of stupidity.
Agreed.
It didn’t take much for him to show his true colors.
Critique sincerely meant to be constructive:

I think it is pretty clear the first time we see them: https://www.nexttownover.net/?p=953
I had hoped the panel bla pointed out accomplished what you’re talking about, Javier, but I take your point and appreciate the critique.
This is why Genevieve is “visually simpler”; I don’t thumbnail these or generally plan my paneling as well as I could to serve the action.
What about running out of paper? At the rate he’s going…
Hmm…
Wasn’t that how the whole story started in the first place?
This cannot end well…
He’s a bit demonic looking now. this is a exaple of how obsession can destroy someone.
Next step, of course, is to run out of paper …
Or blood…

Ah, and then will the “handwriting be on the walls”?? After all, he won’t run out of house any time too soon.
And, folks, is why you never make Wisdom you’re dump stat.
*rolls eyes*
*grammar!fail*
The shame of it!
And that’s why you don’t make Charisma your dump stat.

I know I can’t touch all of these other great puns, but this page sure has a killer punchline. 😎
He’s truly got the soul of an author. Or would if he hadn’t sold it.
