Nobody ever thinks to ask *why* these entities want their souls. What will be done with my soul? Is the soul the center of consciousness, and thus, will I experience whatever you will do with my soul?

Probably want them to put in soul gems. Ever play The Elder Scroll’s games?

Well, the spiritual concept of a soul is so vague that ‘selling’ it could mean almost anything. I like the more literalist interpretation where a soul is not so much of a thing as it is a name; It identifies who you are. So selling your soul becomes equivalent to selling your identity. Someone owning your soul then could then feasibly use you as your slave – or discard your entire physical being and assume your identity (and all rights and grants that come with it) at will.

It’s a mistake: I was under the impression that adjectives and past & present participles usually follow the noun they modify in French, but some quick research suggests there are exceptions to this, and adjectives concerning size are one of them. D’oh!

Well, that IS a confusing syntactic rule. Just about every non-native French speaker trips on that one eventually.

I’m gonna guess it’s a light he can’t turn off, so he can never sleep, never sneak around in the dark, etc….maybe his eyes glow or his face, or something.

This guy keeps selling shares of his soul for every small gadget he can think off….. maybe he should think selling smaller parcels… you know… a quarter top….. they’re pens…. is not as if he could do anything that he couldn’t with a regular pen is it?

If everyone sold their souls for trinkets like this, Sharper Image would be out of business!

Interesting concept selling your soul one share at a time, and is it even possible to sell ones soul as if it were some meager possession to be easily pawned off at ones convenience.
I always liked the way the anti-Christ operated in American Gothic. He would offer help with minor things at first in exchange for little favors down the road. Eventually you would ask him for help with major things, and in return he would ask you to do some pretty dark shit in return. You could always refuse and save your soul at that point, but breaking a contract with the devil usually involved a vary messy freak accident.
