Yeesh! She’s using Hollow Pointsj [Her Own Tech, No doubt, they’re not standard Colt Issue.] He just extracted the Bullet, and Cauterized the the Wound without missing a Beat. Does seem to have dampened his Cheery Demeanor. Diamonds doesn’t seem particularly upset by any of it.
Now That IS Odd! For someone who just complained about Long Belabored Goodbyes, why shoot him in the Stomach? He would have taken hours to die from that. She’s standing at Point Blank Range, and his Coffee Cup was held level with his Heart. Her 2nd Shot was deliberately 4″ lower.
She may have been shooting his hand on the assumption he was holding something dangerous in it, which appears to be correct, as there seems to be a glow emanating from under his hand in the third panel before she shoots him. I believe what we’re seeing in panels five & six are his releasing whatever spell he had prepared and letting it expand.
That made me think: How did the demon end up in Vane? I think a lot of us thought it was a side effect of Hunter bringing her back to life. But he used the same branding process on the horse and it hasn’t shown any behavior that indicates it has a demon in it. (Not trying to attack him, etc.)
Maybe it got in her because Vane’s jealousy and weakened constitution allowed a demon to take up residence in her body in the first place, and this whole adventure has been so Hunter can properly purge/kill that demon so she can rest in peace instead of torment.

Time for the watch. At long last.
The art is looking just superb, Erin.

That was my assumption, that she shot the wrong hand.
I suspect that she can’t kill him with the means at her disposal, and that he might think that he has a chance to free her of her demon.

I’m see now, her boots have ends with metal plate. Maybe bulletproof.
