I am so looking forward to this. It’s imso rare to see a webcomic make it through to its conclusion, and it is so very satisfying to see when they do The years of dedication to the craft and art it takes… Always a pleasure to see.
In the previous comic, Cyclopne Dance waves to the characters zand looks at them as she rides off with Stone Hears Nothing. This could imply that Mr. and Dr. Hunter are spirits since Stone Hears Nothing can’t hear or see the supernatural. Although this would greatly disturb the readers, the author could simply leave the meaning up to the reader’s imagination.
I’d give it a 50/50 chance that they both died and are going for a final ride into the sunset on the ghost of Diamonds, just like Danny and Sandy at the end of Grease.
I’d also give the other side of that 50/50 chance that they were only “mostly dead” after the final battle and the combination of Coyote magic, first aid skills from Stone-hears-nothing, and a mystic boost from the red crystal healed them right up. If that’s the case, they need to get as far away from there as possible, since at least two people could possibly come back later looking for that bounty (if they were brave, greedy and stupid enough) and won’t find any remains.
The crosses on the graves read “John Henry Hunter” and “CLAUDIA Hunter”, so I’m guessing our JHH is a junior and those were his parents’ graves. That still doesn’t prove JHH and Vane are alive, but I do think Coyote granted them a final gift and they’re free.
There is a Heavy Finality about this Page, except for the Very Last Panel. I agree with Naldru that I don’t Believe Stone-Hears-Nothing Sees Either Hunter OR Vain! HOWEVER, Vain’s Expression in Panel 7 Shows Her Reacting to something that Has Not Yet been shown to US. That and Purely for the Sake of . . . Symmetry, I do NOT See Hunter Getting the Last Word!
“Zathros has been Beast of Burden for Other People’s Problems. Very Sad Life. Probably Very Sad Death . . BUT There is SYMMETRY!” -Zathros, Keeper of The GREAT Machine.
Hrrm. I want to cheer, but I am skeptical. Are we about to see two (three?) spirits ride off into the afterlife, or is they truly alive?
*are they.

Plenty of bodies (or pieces thereof) lyin’ about to put in those two graves. Take your pick.
