It appears that Vane just checked out, then so did JHH (who I’d thought had died earlier when he bled out from all those buckshot wounds), and finally Coyote left the area for lack of an avatar. What next? What’s Amaranth Crawford up to, besides getting his grimoire back? And what happens when Cyclonedance (a suggestive name in this case, since Prof. Crawford is whipping up a minor cyclone) and Stone Hears Nothing get there? Gotta be soon!
Cyclone Dance and Stone Hears Nothing may not do anything. Back in Short End 21, Cyclone told Stone that Eagles wants her to see what happens, not to try to stop Coyote. It’s quite possible they’re already there and watching from a distance.
Stone said she wanted to stop Coyote. Cyclonedance said, “We won’t let you!” “We” referred to Cyclonedance and Eagle’s Ears. It’ll be interesting. Coyote appears to have departed anyway after JHH cashed in his chips.
I’m not sure Coyote’s departing, as that looks a lot like a look of concern on his face. Probably not so much concern for Vane and/or Hunter’s welfare, instead concern that his amusement’s going away. Perhaps he’s going to possess Vane to give her a bit more time to amuse him?
I missed the probable causal link there. Crawford stole the air from the JHH ranch house, hastening Vane and John’s deaths. (He can of course haul their corpses back to collect the rewards, after he gets his book back.)
hmmm, last thing she sees. Coyote its own self looking worried. (yes, coyotes can look worried trust me) Be interesting, because coyote seemed to have become invested in JHH pulling this off.
Both of them have been dead or as good as dead before. If the blow hard was always pretty much clueless. It would be pretty pathetic end to the story if this loser came out on top. I would not be surprised if the demon that was in Vane did not put in a final appearance.
It occurred to me that, with JHH and Vanity out of the equation, there’s someone else on the way that Coyote might use for his purposes: Cyclonedance (a suggestive name that). Cyclonedance is a young child, but very perceptive and a first-rate horse whisperer. And what mischief is Coyote up to?
A lot of people seem to interpret the second-to-last panel as Coyote leaving, rather than re-entering the scene. Vane appears to be going in and out of consciousness, as she sits there dying, opening and closing her eyes. Coyote shows up to her right before she closes them one last time on the next panel. Perfectly on-brand moment for Coyote to appear. And I don’t think he looks worried. : )

Mmmmm just reread the comic for like 4th time. What a ride. Even better that the last pages are so slow, don’t want this to end too soon :'(
