It’s not all his magic, Diamonds still has the magic fire in him. (Also in one of the flashbacks we saw that Hunter’s metal spine acted like a lightning rod for magic.) That’s the magic in the watch itself dissipating. Since Vane’s collapsed, it looks like either he contained her soul in the watch, or the magic keeping her body alive.
Diamonds is a coal-burner. Vane turned him into one after she wrecked the Redridge Express and stripped the locomotive for parts. I don’t think there’s any magic to it.
Am I right in thinking that JHH’s lovely and so-useful fire magic was actually borrowed/stolen from the fire-demon inhabiting Angel Eyes… and somehow controlled/stored by the locket… possibly through the medium of her Immortal Soul???
In the flashback in The Chimney page 9 Hunter used fire magic to burn some flowers to Vane’s perplexity, saying that the steel spine makes him something of a “lightnin’ rod for arcane energies.” He refers to it as a lightning rod the first time in Via Dolorosa page 5.
So probably not, it’s more likely those are innate thanks to the spine.
Hunter looks so very lost at the end. Beautiful work
Absolutely. Some of the best facial expression art anywhere.
I love how you can tell the horse is saying “You’re damn right you don’t.”
That horse has suffered the most out of all of them
So JHH had all of his magic (not his soul) housed in that watch.
Game over.

He was a coal burner, until Hunter gave him magic fire to “make sure [he didn’t] run outta steam” in The Chimney page 32.
Doggone! You’re right. I missed that.
I didn’t know what the events in today’s comic meant until I read the comments. WOW.

(peeks out of shrubbery, light glinting off his glasses) Very Interesting Mr. Hunter.
Weigh, haul aweigh, they’re bound for better weather… (or at least we hope so)
