I don’t think Cyclonedance is frightened, just kind of annoyed she got caught and is being told to leave. She strikes me as the type of kid that isn’t scared of anything.
Well that was pretty heavily telegraphed, but from Vane’s expression, I’m not entirely sure that was intentional. she looks startled, she wasn’t sweating in the previous frame, and he was standing in her blind-spot.
Yeah, she’s just swung her fist down is all… like you meant to pound a fist on the table in frustration, only you didn’t notice the kitten just jumped up or something.
It was probably an intentional motion, but in her anger she forgot she was in that steampunk mech and didn’t intend to cause as much harm as she did. She basically wanted to slap him for pissing her off, not nearly kill him by breaking his spine.
Looks to me like Vane didn’t know John was that close Like Bomar said, blind spot. This injury looks like a broken neck, How John is still alive is a miracle. See? See? This is what happens when emotions overwhelm you while operating have equipment. Anyway, Vane has her work cut out for her. Oh dear, that was a bad pun. As for Cyclondance, she’s a bundle of curiosity. What a cuttie. Happy New Year Erin. And Thanks for the new page.
Thank You as always for your prompt and courteous reply. If you’ll indulge me, just a little, my Forum name is B-zero-mar. I’ve looked for some way to denote that, without the tedious explanation. On the Napalm Luck Forum, that I frequent most often, I’ve made the change to Ascii 157 for BØmar. It’s always has been pronounced “Bomar” [Like the old 4-banger calculator – that isn’t spelled that way either. That said, I will NEVER Mention it again. Lets see if this works…
I can’t get over how disproportionate Cyclonedance’s eyes are compared to every other character in the comic. Given Erin’s attention to detail and proportion with every other character she’s created thus far, I have to believe there is some significance to the overall narrative with this artistic decision. I have a feeling that this child must be far more than she appears to the casual observer.
Big eyes are how the Greeks and other Mediterranean ancients indicated divinity … and how Disney and other modern cartoonists indicate cuteness. That said, human children DO have disproportionately large eyes compared to their adult forms.
It looks like she whirled and caught him under the chin/on his shoulder. He then landed on his side. I – how did he break his spine that way? Or did she break his neck?
The break was in between two of his cervical vertebrae. (Recall in the operation flashback that he wasn’t feeling any of the incision below the third cervical.)
The frightened Cyclonedance’s face expression is priceless! And I may be mistaken, but Vane seems to be serene with the girl’s interference.
Oh, Happy New Year, Erin!

Yes, I wanted to say this. But my English is poor yet. Her expression is what we all did when we were kids and got caught where we shouldn’t be!
Busted
Happy New Year!
I SLAP YOU!!! …oh. uh, whoops

Sorry, I meant HEAVY equipment.

Vane and Hunter are kind of like an ouroboros, two snakes eating each other’s tails.
Anyway, Cyclonedance is adorable.

So we finally got to learn how he broke his neck and why he got a new spine.
Sorry if I’m late to the party on this, but – Cyclone Dance? As in, Twister?
Left hand yellow, right foot blue. Big earrings, big eyes, looking at YOOOU.
Get thee to a punnery, JuaSaysHi … and take me with you!!
