Well that’s interesting, I guess the metal spine works as something of an antenna for magic energy in his universe. If so, maybe fire magic isn’t the only thing he can do, just the one he knows how to handle the most or was able to learn properly
I suspected he might have stolen that book from Broken Sky to learn other magic, and that he used that to “prove” he could hear the spirits, so the Council would believe he’s Coyote. (Assuming he isn’t, it could go either way.) Now I’m wondering if he simply wanted to learn more magic, to put all that energy his spine gathers to use.
This may also explain how he’s survived horrendous wounds over the course of the comic but healed from them on his own. His using some lesser type of healing magic than blood magic would explain a lot. (Looking back at that chapter, Hunter referred to his spine as a lightning rod there as well.)
J.H. I think you sum it up very well, Especially the, “Unintended consequences” bit in your analogy. That seems to be where, and what this war is all about between our two protagonist. But I know that isn’t the whole story. There’s more, to be sure.
And do the elders see this memory as we do? and do they then find Vane of interest? questions, questions– always so many plot developments! love the art too.
I don’t get it. Why is it _ironical_, that he ows these powers to her? Did/Would she not want him to have them? Did she have something against his stage magician profession? Also: how did he end up paralysed? Do we know anything about that yet? (I don’t recall that we do. But I would also be curious about hypotheses)
Hunter’s wanton ways, Vane standing with a bloody candlestick in her hands (and was Hunter collapsed before her?), Hunter recuperating in bed, unable to move….

hell yeah, secret Cool S
Well well, would you look at that.
Hunter made Vane into the undead avenger she is today.
And Vane it seems made Hunter into a titan of magic from the stage magician he was.
Unintended consequences from both of them using their talent to try and mend what they loved.
And it leads to this state of war between them in the present.

The plot thickens even further! I don’t know why, but for some reason I thought he could always do fire magic. This changes things.
I wonder what the elders want from Hunter, too.
They want, Information. InforMATION-TION,. INFORMATION-TION-TION-TION.

I think we’ve been given some telling clues.
Hunter’s wanton ways, Vane standing with a bloody candlestick in her hands (and was Hunter collapsed before her?), Hunter recuperating in bed, unable to move….
Or then Vane I believe has been hinted as a skeptic of supernatural; Hunter is saying it’s ironic that the scientist gave him magical powers
