Sorry, Hunter, but she just isn’t herself today. (Or any day, for that matter.)

you gotta wonder at the optimism of Hunter choosing an all white suit.

That’s a really good point. Maybe it’s the triumph of hope over experience?

Optimism is an angle I wouldn’t have considered myself but it seems possible. I wrote off his preference to white clothing to the fact that he was a renowned performer – white clothing fulfilling two purposes in this regard.

One, it helps him stand out and draw the eye; free advertising and a statement of success that both states his reputation as an entertainer and supports it.

Two, it’s an extravagance to be able to not only afford white but keep it white, and this allows him to awe the common folk and fit in with the richer folk.

I agree with all the posts above! And she got at least one result she wanted, no more music!

So, the assumption was, for a long time, that JHH made Vane what she is. But, it’s starting to look like maybe Vane did it to herself and made JHH what he is, or maybe she did it to him first and he tried to save her the same way, but messed it up somehow. It looks like in the past, both might have been good people, but now neither is and it seems like neither can die. It makes me wonder if the reason JHH keeps seeking all these relics isn’t just to dispel Vane, but maybe to correct his mistake during her resurrection. I could have forgotten/missed something, I have been reading this comic over the course of years.

It would be interesting to know what happened to each of them. We’re given some tantalizing glimpses, but we really don’t know what happened.

fdasfs has it right at the end, methinks. he brought back a demon when he brought her back, and her purpose, though wicked, is to uphold a divine command to let the dead lie. He’s just another man frustrated that reality isn’t bending to his whims and going ever further into wickedness to keep the one sin going.
The miracle isn’t that men would sell their souls … it is that they set their price so low.

Unfortunately true. The Faustian deal actually exists. The former chief exorcist for the Catholic Church, Father Martin Malachi, one gave several examples of people who had made a deal with the devil.

If a person’s determined to go to hell, then I supposed they might as well live it up, but it’s far better to get Saved and avoid hell altogether.

The good news is that it’s easy to get Saved. Believe in Christ and ask Him to Save you.
“‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
      Romans 10:13
“for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.””
      Acts 2:38
“Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

I at first thought that the crow had ripped out the strings … but it’s Hunter, saving the demons of Hell the trouble of tormenting him, and volunteering to be their subcontractor in return for … whatever it is exactly, it sure ain’t worth it.
