I love this comment, though I am wondering if you realize it has double meaning… (intentionally or not)

I am of the mind Vane whacked him from behind with that wrench, which paralyzed him. “Touched a nerve.” Hah!

Nah, the blood is only appearing on the bandages, in the spots where I seem to remember him being hurt last time. More likely that he’s bleeding through from moving too much too early. That scab tissue can only hold together for so long.

look at page 16, he was playing a violin there and no fresh blood in sight… I have to say I’m with ScholarOfFortune on this one and fear for the bloodpriest.

I’m starting to get the impression that she was always nuts. She appears to be mad because he brought up whatever incident where she paralyzed him.

I’m impressed that this scene is appropriately macabre without being overly gruesome. Nice touch with the crows.

One thing I can’t figure out is why Vanity is not the one with the large wanted poster. She’s been indiscriminately murdering one person after another. Hunter has killed several people in this strip, but in each case someone attacked him or threatened him first. As opposed to just being in the way like Vane’s victims.

Was she always a homicidal maniac or did the virus change her?

The people who have to clean up after Hunter don’t necessarily know the circumstances behind his messes. All they know is that a wanted fire elemental came through town before everything caught on fire and he left. Even the dimmest sheriff could probably put 2 and 2 together.

She’s not a zombie she’s a revenant. Zombies have to be intentionally brought back, while with revenants this is optional.

Also you don’t need a virus to change someone pain and trauma will do the job just fine and make for better storytelling.

JHH killed a bunch of whores to bring her back to life (part of the ritual, I’m guessing) before she started her murderous chase, so I’m guessing it’s more of an infamy first thing.

Well, Schlump, why the wanted poster for Hunter? Hunter always has a reason to murder … just like Bonnie and Clyde. He wants their stuff, or he wants to prevent them from informing the law. … Plus there’s the matter of his fighting on for the side that lost what seems to have been a very nasty war.
I suspect Vane, even if she weren’t possessed of a demon on vengeance, really regrets ending Hunter’s infirmity. Perhaps she could bring it back and leave him in the wastes. Heh. “The Jundland Wastes are not to be traveled lightly, Hunter … but you’re not going anywhere soon.”
Maybe I’m just a sucker for a scientific dame, but I sympathize with her band of serial killing, especially with the demonic possession excuse, than his. I’d still avoid her or try to put her down hard fast, and final.

Let’s not forget that Hunter killed or kidnapped a bunch of people for Vane’s experimental study of the fever, so he’s done significantly more dastardly stuff than what we’ve explicitly seen.

That’s true. It’s suggested in one of the strips. It also says something that Vane apparently experimented on the innocent, like some Dr. Mengele. It might explain why she didn’t stay dead, but instead returned as a revenant.

I’m not letting Hunter off, but with the exception that he got innocent victims for Vane’s “work”, it seems like he’s always reacting, rather than actively murdering just to murder.

So, the question remains: why no wanted posters for Vane? Is it just a matter than none of her victims lived long enough to complain, like ones on the train?

Some Cat is correct, Vane has a wanted poster at the beginning of the chapter, JHH uses it to complain about Vane keeping her maiden name.

I suspect the flashback is John is lying with a broken neck after Vane interrupted the “seduction”/sacrifice we witnessed in an earlier flashback a couple of chapters ago.

Thank you Some Cat and ScholarofFortune.
I thought of another set of reasons Vane Hunter (interestingly, there’s a comic called Hunter Black) has a bounty eight thousand less than John Henry Hunter’s – Vane can be reasoned with – she’s cooperated with others trying to bring Hunter down, and other than one lady Hunter danced with, he has betrayed everyone. Also, she follows him, so catching him is the higher priority, and his body count seems to be higher. She is more visibly menacing than he, while he’s seduced and murdered plenty of people, even those who tried to seduce him back. Finally, he may be trying to get the parts together for a weapon. She just wants him dead.
