I have no idea how the reverend got her ideas about Hunter, but she obviously only has a cursory knowledge of necromancy in general, which is further complicated by the likelihood that Vane is likely a special, new kind of Elemental wraith, at least in the sense that Hunter preserved her free will intact. I have said it before, but my working theory is that Hunter reanimated her in the hope she would be as much herself again as possible, but failed to comprehend how much self loathing she has for her failure with the vaccine. She wants to remain dead, and quite possibly told him to leave her dead just before she died. He may have betrayed that probable promise and in any event, the only way a Elemental wraith can die is for the spell caster to die. She at least hates herself more then she ever loved him, and may well have reason to feel betrayed in addition, as I speculated. Casters would normally bind a wraith in some way, taking away their will and enslaving them, but Hunter chose not to, which is, at least, a sign of noble intent.
She does regenerate to some degree it seems or she would still have a hole through the solar plexus, and a head wound etc… I think Rev Mother is gonna get a big shock in the not long future, whether from Vane or Hunter remains to be seen. The eyes of Vane are just absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the art is but the glowing side eye is so fabulous!
Does she regenerate? The head wound is still there, and her other wounds would be covered up by the shirt she’s currently wearing. It would take going back through the archives to really see… maybe I’ll take up that “burden” later this week.
The whipping seems to be causing dead, filthy, putrescent blood to ooze onto the fabric. Creepily repulsive, even compared to the Reverend Mother. The glowing eyes remind me of C. J. Cherryth’s Atevi in The Foreigner Universe – except it isn’t a tepetum lucidum, but inner fires of Hell. I wonder is Hunter trying to save her, or just stringing her along until he can sacrifice her again for some dark purpose?
“Out in the east coast of some strange cont’nent Hunter fell in love with a psychotic doc-tor. Nighttime would find him being sewn up like kid gloves The cad had it bad and he didn’t mind the gore.
Brighter than fire were the eyes of Vane Black, Wicked and evil while cutting up meat. Hunter’s love was deep for this person of hellfire. He was a bad apple, but in Vane he was beat.
One night a wild young disease came in Nasty like dengue it rapidly spread. Vane tried in vain to stop the old deadly virus Instead she created a new strain to dread…
I love how Vane looks more annoyed by the whipping than actually hurt.
She seems tired to me.
I read resolute. Enduring. An attitude of “can we get this over with please, I have more important things to do”.
She still has the burn marks from taking multiple bullets through the head, I doubt a whipping would do much compared to that. 🙂
Can a revenant be killed at all? Vanity sure doesn’t seem to be susceptible to anything in the long term.

Oopsie, missed the head wound! you’re right, Piripero–So what would take her down? does even Hunter know?
Doubt if conventional weapons would work. One wonders if a vat of molten steel would only slow her down.

Brilliant page.
Can confirm that Vane’s eyes in this one are beyond amazing.
Brimstone gems.
The eyes, oh the eyes!
I guess the cat-o-five-tails isn’t quite cutting it on the demon exorcising. Needs four more tails at least.
Vane’s a bit irritated.
With apologies to Marty Robbins:
“Out in the east coast of some strange cont’nent
Hunter fell in love with a psychotic doc-tor.
Nighttime would find him being sewn up like kid gloves
The cad had it bad and he didn’t mind the gore.
Brighter than fire were the eyes of Vane Black,
Wicked and evil while cutting up meat.
Hunter’s love was deep for this person of hellfire.
He was a bad apple, but in Vane he was beat.

Nasty like dengue it rapidly spread.
Vane tried in vain to stop the old deadly virus
Instead she created a new strain to dread…
I ‘spect Vane would be after Hunter for no other reason than the success of his sorcerous shenanigans upsets her scientific principles.
