Plot twist! JHH was actually going to kill Emma to power his demon magic (or whatever) and Vane’s presence has stopped the nefarious deed!
His comment of “walkin’ in at the exact wrong time” could refer to Vane interrupting the black magic spell Hunter was casting after murdering Mme. B the voodoo bookseller!
Or I may be totally wrong. That’s why I love Erin’s comic.
She’s got moxie, Miss Emma–I don’t think I would be nearly so brave when someone with glowing orange eyes and no visible pupil told me to take a hike! And yes, he either knew she was there already, or he called her out with that last exhaled “Vane”…of course, this fits their current pattern. So elegantly done, Erin!
That’s because you know what those kinbd of eyes mean from TV, and are used to them. This poor girl is probably denying she is seeing what is right in front of her as a trick of the light or something.
Yes this could get very messy. I do hope Emma takes Hunters advice and get while the getting’s good. Don’t want to see the ugly consequences if she doesn’t.
As for Vane’s good mood, if you can call it that, I do remember her telling the train engineer in book six “Red Ridge Express” to “Get out” before she killed him. He didn’t take her advise. RUN EMMA, RUN!
The engineer didn’t have Hunter standing between him and Vane’s gun — that may make enough difference to keep Emma from suffering the engineer’s fate.
Also, I just discovered a webcomic called Hunter Black yesterday, which caught my attention partly because of the names and kept my attention because it’s extremely good. Check it out!
Emma, you’ve got plenty of guts. And if you don’t want to see them all over the floor, then when an undead woman with blaze orange hair points a gun at you and tells you to leave, it is time to make like a tree and…
Well, Vane is in an unusually good mood. She’s giving bystanders a chance to get away before the firefight starts.
And she speaks before shooting!

Or he was lost in the moment and said the name of the woman he really loves. Wonder if that happened with Boudreaux, too?

Do what the angry lady with the boom-boom-make-dead-stick asks, Emma. :p
Boom-boom-make-dead-stick, now that’s just perfect. XD
Here’s hoping they reconcile. It’s obvious that at least John wants that.
Is it? He is replaying every betrayal from their old life, hard to see how that will help.
Oh boy, this is gonna get messy!
