Hunter mentioned in a flashback she had fixed his paralysis – combined with Vane’s flashback of him on her surgical table, and his scar as seen a couple chapters ago… yeah. Scalpels being commonly surgical grade steel, it made sense to me that his spine would be too.
When I saw your post on the last page, Carcharadon, I admired the way you put all that together. Great catch. And now I’m admiring the way Erin envisioned it through the machine! AND I’m wondering what precisely made her have to replace the ENTIRE spine? Yikes. Sometimes this comic feels like there is more back story than now story. Especially in this case…
Best response to a technical glitch EVAR. You, friend, are the Hero of the Internet, proving that it is possible **not** to Troll-Rage in response to a minor error.
Would you please consider making your “vote” button a little bigger? Some of us have eyes that are bad when it comes to smaller things (diabetes) and want to show gratitude by voting, but it’s hard to find that button some days.
I can, sure, and might when I get a second. I promise I meant no affront to anyone’s eyes (it is teensy); the current size was kind of directly proportionate to my affection for “Top 100” style list sites, and for junking up my already cluttered-looking site with a bunch more buttons.
It occurs to me that “Broken Sky” can refer to the colors, in that this private sanctum is an azure sky blue hue and technically, our dastardly beau has “broken” it with his trespassing. Clever Erin, clever.
You have been having a terrific time with Crawford, haven’t you. You can see it in every drawing of his face and form – but maybe my favorite so far is the first cell of this page. Part goat, part Abe Lincoln, part rooster, part ballet dancer, part Wizard of Oz… He’s great. I can hardly wait to see him go up against John Henry Hunter. Fire and Air going at it.
So in that first cell, is he looking in the direction he believes JHH to have gone? Or is he just checking his back?
I love the dialogue between these two – courtly and Western. And the way he is not at all put off by Vane’s otherworldliness (never mind that – her being dead!).
Is that his spine? Did she get some spinal fluid on her scalpel sometime in the fight, or is this from before?
From before. IIRC Vane had done some work on him, before they fell out.

The plot thickens…
The plot thickens.
Ugh sorry please delete.
Well it is an extra thick plot.

+1 for extra awesome response.
Sorry RSG but there’s no way I can delete it now. 🙂
Ah well, my mistake will stay here for all to see…
…and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!
So his spine is made of metal??? (I presume it’s made out of the same stuff as her scalpel.)
That certainly explains the ginormous scar…
I love this comic so much. It’s one of the few that makes me look forward to checking my RSS everyday.
Erin, your use and sense of color is a gift. My eyes love looking at these.
Thanks so much Emanon!

I do love the contrast with the clean, crystal blue background and Vanes deathly pale skin covered in soot.

I love how her hair looks in awful condition, as if she hasn’t washed or brushed it in days. Your attention to detail is fantastic.
Very much obliged!
