I am completely gobsmacked by the detail in the carpet and the banners overhead, not to mention the entirety! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just love this whole page so much….words fail me.
Oooh, nice detail on the flag burning off of diamonds. That….has to be uncomfortable for Vane after a few hours. In other news: Do not, I repeat, do not ever turn your back on Miss Black, Professor.
How did JHH’s blood get on the scalpel? Vane doesn’t appear to produce it until after JHH leaves the ballroom–and at that point, it doesn’t appear to be bloody. Did I miss something? Is it possible she cut herself and it is her own blood? (Which has other implications, of course)…hmm…
Not sure about this– she can certainly operate enough modern technology to mesh a steam engine and a horse and to build crazy weapons. Maybe she can’t operate the golden thingy because she’s not a mage?
Amethyst summed it up. I was referencing the split between the mechanical sciences (at which Vane is clearly a savant) and the arcane sciences (at which I assume she is terrible, and also barred from using due to her particular state of living).
What an interesting twist! I love the way Crawford is unafraid of her, and the interesting confirmation we get about her condition from her confession that she cannot operate the machine…
The continued contrast between the bright space above and the dark space below is going to make an amazing passage of pages in the printed book.
The detail of the banner burning off of Diamonds is wonderful.
If you look up in the comments a bit, a couple people already voiced a theory that he’s got a steel rod in his spine made of the same material as the scalpel. Which really wouldn’t surprise me since, in the arc with the doctor and sick kids iirc, he had a huge scar on his back from some kinda spinal surgery, which I think was performed by Vane. Mm, might go do a reread so I can refresh my memory on the bits and pieces revealed about their pasts.
Ooh, JHH’s blood, clever Ms Black.
Also, wow, what a background. That must have taken ages.
Thanks, though I take quite a few shortcuts. This week I took even more because I didn’t seriously get at the page till Saturday.
Blood perhaps, but my moneys wagered on his spine being surgical grade steel…
That’s my bet too. Except maybe something more exotic than steel?

Thanks Karyl.
Wow, the detail and beauty in that first frame… Just, wow…
Much obliged.

krimeninny!! I can,t believe the rich detail! do you study Victorian architecture and styles?
I do some referencing here and there! Thanks, got!

Side effects of being undead also include being unable to operate most modern technology.
Ooooh, so that’s why she is so grumpy! She can’t get her ipod to work!
I literally lol’d!!

It was mentioned a few pages back that the device is powered by human life force. She might not have enough (or any) to make it work.

Absolutely awesome.
Not only the art itself but the imagination that provides such detail.
Thank you for a beautiful update.
Thanks so much for your kind words & continued support, TT!

Finally caught up!
Is she about to use some of Hunter’s blood to divine his position? When did she get it?
