Thanks to your sister for the awesome Vane Black skin! Now my Minecraft can have the best NTO feel with it’s best character! I <3 Mizz Black!
As to today's comic, I have been wondering why Vane has been holding a scalpel for a while now. She doesn't strike me as a knife fighter unless she is desperate. I don't think she is ever desperate, except to catch Hunter.
I wouldn’t say so. Professor Crawford indeed looks like he is going to blow out anytime now, but he is still putting on airs… while Vane keeps her cool, of course. She makes storming expositions look like a breeze in the park…
Crawford would not appear to recognize her abilities, or at least, to underestimate them…a problem for MANY of her opponents. And indeed, where is “Mr Black?” in the basement of the library with the bell, the candle, the wand–etc. Wonderful delivery of mood and detail, Erin.
Work and an out of town trip have kept me away… And I see some great plot twists since I last looked! Beautiful sequences, and I wonder how these alternating pages of John in the library and Vane and Crawford in the main hall are going to look in the book (I will be buying the book!)
And what is with the scalpel!?! I’m on the edge of my chair to see what Vane is doing with that.
The guys in our house are all avid readers of your comic, and we all think Vane did a great job creating the diversion John Henry needed to slip off without Crawford following.
And I can’t wait to see what’s down those stairs. This is as good as Myst, and with a much more interesting story line.
Detail on the way out… I love how you’ve handled Crawford’s body language. I feel like he’s a highly consistent and unique character. It makes me wonder if you have a real person or actor in mind when you draw him… He’s such an expressive, elegant, dandified goat with an impresario spirit. Like the movies your comic calls to my mind, ALL the characters seem like real people (or maybe more like real actors, cast for their distinct personalities, mannerisms, and ways of speaking).
Oh and we love Vane’s last line in this page. We’ve been quoting it out of the blue at each other this week when NTO comes into our minds. And his face!

I bet she has a plan.
My sister thanks you; she never posts here herself though.
Diamonds looks positively terrifying.
The Professor is growing on me! I wonder what he will do; while Hunter is no saint, it’s clearly Vane that unleashed chaos on the exposition.
And of course I can’t edit my post to fix that tag… Kids, don’t drink and HTML.
I fixed it for you. And thanks!
excellent
Much obliged!
And, cue scalpel stabbing in 3…2…1….
Well that took the wind out of him…..so what exactly is she going to cut open wiht that scalpel

Quoting! An honor. I don’t usually think of NTO as super quotable.
I’m super glad to see you back — you are such a clockwork commenter I was a bit worried. Thanks as always!
And in other news best of luck on the Kickstarter. It is so cloooose!
We made it today! Kickstarter funded! It will be a book!
I want to say ‘Toro, toro!’ but that’s the wrong species. And ‘Caballo! Caballo!’ just doesn’t have the right ring to it hah.
