A library? And a beautiful one at that. ERUDITIO EST VIA above the entrance. Latin? Little help here. I love the focal plane perspective in the last panel, I don’t know how you do it Erin, but it’s just so fantastic to see the fruits of you labor. You have a wonderful understanding of light and shadow. Boy, John Henry has a very intense look on his face. What’s he after?
Exceptionally beautiful page! That last cell is wonderful – the focus on everything is stunning – the foreground books, JHH’s face, and the background books. The lighting throughout is gorgeous – the chandelier in the hall, the light through the glass roof in the library… I love the juxtaposition of the sexy relief figure to the right of the library door with the saying over it. “Learning is the way” to what?
I notice the way all the cracks are ONLY in the blue stone – nothing else. Not even a window is broken anywhere much less the white stone.
Looking one more time at that last cell, I’m struck (as usual) by your attention to detail. The light on the tops of the pages of the books in the foreground is so carefully studied and effectively captured. And the uneven cut of the pages from that time period… Wonderful.
I just noticed the way the two last books on the tight (bottom of page) are in front of the frame of the third cell. I particularly enjoy the way you frame and arrange your pages.

It means something like “knowledge is the path” or “education is the way”
Thanks js!
If my Wetten is correct, and I’m not going to swear it is, above the door says “Knowledge is the Way.”
What a gorgeous page!
Thanks very kindly!
That first panel is gorgeous! But now I’m wondering what happened between Miz Black and Dr. Windy. (And how much of this Dr. Windy was in on.)
Much obliged!
This stunning art work! I makes me think of many victorian municipal buildings most of which are sadly gone!
Beautiful page. Just… Beautiful.
Thanks much, both of you!
Beautiful page! The detail is awesome!
“Learning is the path”? (My last Latin class was 40 years ago…)
Thanks for a great update?
Appreciate it, TT!

Very much obliged, as always, arn.

The FIRE MAGE is in a LIBRARY. *ultimate cringe*
JHH: “I just have to get that new Walt Whitman book before this place cracks apart.”
I wonder what Dewey “How to Kill Your Zombie Ex(?)-Wife” would be under… 355-357 for military science/warfare, or 305/306 for relationships?
I loved all three of these! JHH “singing the body electric” – too much!
Ha! Seconded, arnly.
I’ll just go ahead and say it again: truly gorgeous page.
Thanks again, Rando.
how could anyone be scowling in such a beautiful library?
