It would seem a new challenger has appeared. A wind mage it would seem.
Once again you surpass expectations.
And Vane looks positively demonic in the last two panels. I doubt she accounted for outside interference just now. But will it be enough to save the building or just delay the collapse?
An Aeromancer? Oh, right, Hunter is a Pyromancer. No reason for Hunter to be the only element-themed magic user in this universe, after all. Wait a minute, aren’t these two members of the same society? They have the same ring. In hindsight, we should have suspected that.
Hunter’s ring in that scene is just his wedding band, otherwise the prostitutes would have commented on it, Crawford’s however has a design that, if you look closely, resembles the demon amulet from Genevieve.
Hmm, well that’s just a fly in the ointment now, isn’t it? I think if anyone looks demonic it Professor Crawford. I notice he is also uttering some sort of incantation as he manipulates the elements, although I’m inclined to think it’s more then just the wind this guy can manipulate. This guy could be even more sinister then John Henry.
As for a society these two “gentlemen” may be part of, Erin did give us a, “More on this later” (or words to that effect) in her comments a couple of months ago. Clearly Vane is very pissed her plan has been foiled.
is it an incantation or “curses, foiled again”? I wonder at his motives in general, although it might seem he didn’t sense anything specific about Hunter. In any case, the sense of movement at great speed is wonderfully rendered, as is the feeling of urgency. Great job, Erin!
I really want to see a more detailed image of Crawford’s vest (surcoat? waistcoat? Forgive my fashion illiteracy). If he is indeed an aeromancer, it would seem a nice counterpart to Hunter’s wardrobe! Like suddenly, western meets steampunk meets gender-swapped magical girl manga!
I thought Hunter and Crawford shared a lot, which would hopefully be revealed. I could tell from the last page’s great image of Crawford in the last cell (the usual great chaining from page to page) that he was going to step in. The man can think fast, like Hunter and Vane. I can hardly wait to see what he says or does next. The hall has been cleared, so they can act more openly (I hope). I wonder how Vane’s actions have foiled or revealed the group’s plans (assuming Hunter and Crawford are allied in some way).
Hunter plainly got the worst of the current – it passed through his torso (but only Vane’s hand/wrist).
It is fascinating to see how Hunter and Vane have made each other what they are now – and the way this is revealed a little at a time.
Parting detail/comment as I look one more time on my way out…
I love the fourth cell’s point of view. I can’t think of a more dramatic angle for the arrival of the windmill blades. And I think the drawing of the wild spinning and oscillation of the wheel works quite well, including those sketchy highlights on the blades – just the right amount of not fussing over it (I would have screwed something like that up for sure – overworked it).
I’m sorry, but this has been nagging at me for a couple of months now. Where the hell is the posse that’s been looking for these two? And what happened to the doctor from chapter five?
jsfury, I’ve been wondering the same two things! The more the suspense builds, the more I want to see it. Maybe we needed Crawford to even the scales a bit, since the opposition has been steadily growing.
Arnly you have a point. Indeed, the suspense is heading north, and oh how we love it. That and are speculation. You mention how the opposition is growing. The collection of folks we saw at Redridge might only be part of a much larger group we don’t know anything about. Again, Erin likes to keep us guessing. A mark of a very good, and talented writer that I am sure we all agree. And did the doctor/solder meet up the the posse on the way?
Perhaps in the next few pages we might get a glimpse of the posse coming to catch or kill their nemesis. In any case, Professor Crawford, or Mephisto as I like to call him, will make an interesting addition to the cast. Still, I wonder how much longer before we see these two brought to justice even though I have a soft spot in my heart for Vane. She was done very wrong.
Oh, crap, another witch! Good luck, Vane! Hey, Erin, have we ever told you how amazing you are? And how much we want you to hurry on the next page? Thanks!
I’d love to be able to do 2 or 3 pages a week, but unless & until I can support our family with NTO I don’t think it’s in the cards. I do appreciate how hard it must be to read at this pace, though! 🙁
A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Crawford. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Crawford can save the world.

Hm, a wind mage? Magic users are just coming out of the woodwork, now.

I can’t find this anywheres. Someone link?

Just happened to have the exact right page bookmarked.
though Mr. Hunter’s appears to be just a gold band.

Thanks Karyl!
Here’s the page where the wind mage shows his ring: Hunter just wears the wedding band, as far as I can tell.

Yar, I saw McWindy’s ring but I also only saw the wedding ring on Hunter. Thanks Karyl. Thought it was just me missing something.

Very much obliged, Red!

It’s still exciting. We’ll wait for it, albeit impatiently.
First fire, now air. Are earth and water gonna make an appearance, too?
Oh my God, It’s the Fifth Element gone western steam punk. Is Vane the supreme being? Is she the “Fifth Element”!?
I actually never saw that movie. *sweatdrop* What would the fifth element be, anyway? :/
Muskrat…really? You never saw the movie. Well it’s hard to describe in a couple of sentences so my best advise is watch the movie. It’s a blast. 😉
