Seems to me it’s all happening so fast that the crowd barely understands the world is going o crash down on their heads, or so it will seem. And how loud is that noise? is it a high shrill sound, barely audible, or a needle to the brain? Regardless, wonderful callback to past history of these two, and amazing art, as always!
Points to Brent for analysis. Given that John has spent the entire story on this project and that Vane has finally managed to set him back, this should serve as a transition. He will presumably have to focus on her rather than fending her off while pursuing other goals. That bounty should be in the millions now.
Hmm, this is a perplexing scene. Karyl asks an interesting question regarding the frequency of the noise. If this crystal palace is constructed Karketolite and glass the sound wave being generated might be in the low range as I see no one really holding their ears as they run for cover. Not that it will do them any good as it looks like this place is coming down fast. Wonder how our protagonist will fare? Not to mention Mephisto there in the last panel.
Another odd thing I see is Vane doesn’t seem to be to effected by the electricity where as John Henry seems locked in place. Is this because she is grounded? The flash back might be in reference to John bringing the house down, which they are doing now, with Vane smiling in support? Don’t know. I see she not wearing the traditional dress and hat of the day, but rather a pants suit with short hair cut. Very stylish Arin 😉
Speaking of hats, young lady you have a thing for hats. And as a hat guy myself, I love it. And I love the work you do too. Happy Easter to you and your family.
jsfury – if Vane is grounded, the discharge would go through her to ground. Not sure how true to physics this reality is, but it would appear that the machine is grounded and John Henry is simply forming a conducting link. Vane is “floating” or resistively decoupled from ground.
Dusty, honestly I’m not sure as know very little about electricity, and how it conducts. The tell for me is that Vane’s left hand is free which make me think she’s not part of that circuit, or is completing the circuit in her. where as John Henry is holding on to a metal machine, with has lots of gold in it (a perfect conductor) and doesn’t look like he can move at all, which he is clearly not happy about. Maybe there’s a electrician out there who could shine some light on this? Oh, that was a bad pun. Unless Dusty, you are an electrician?
… which isn’t to say that I’m an electrician; I just have some background in the most basic of DC & AC fundamentals. I had in fact hoped this whole silly sequence would escape serious electrical analysis. 😀
Wandered in fromI-don’t-know-where, completely seduced by the story and the art, currently completing the archive dive, I am totally in awe of this project. Whoa. I haven’t had the time fly like this in a while, and I am super grateful to be along for the ride.
Is that Genevieve (and the author?) in the last two panels?
Vane appears to have been quite the lady back before…..I imagine it’d be nice to see her smile without anger/hate on her face.
They are killing a city as colleteral this time.
Colour me impressed.
Ha! Thanks Jef.

Thanks so much Karyl.

Love the crow-wings lady hat on last panels, a ‘Lone Ranger’ reference?
Mr. “I look like the Devil” does not appear surprised or alarmed.

Thanks much js and a belated Happy Easter to you as well!
interesting. thanks, Tesla.

Dusty is basically right.
Ah, okay.
