Random, can you magnify this page you’re looking at? Cntl+ to enlarge the page, then Cntl – to return to its normal size. If not, I can tell you Vane did get her grapple hook gun out and fired the the tethered hook.
About the grappling hook, while it is Vane that is holding it, since Hunter was holding her hand and we’ve been shown that he is quite strong, it is not clear who is “choosing” where the hook is going (hopefully not to some bystander’s torso).
It doesn’t look to me like she did. In the last frame, her left hand is still being held in place by Hunter, and her right arm appears to be at her side.
I think the grapple was fired by the other party in her “we” statement.
Vane’s last line could sum up the entire story line so far, as she knows.
I love the drama in the second cell, where the dowser turns and the wind seems to blow through his amazing coat.
I wonder if there is something special about that star. The quirky smile and wide eyed look on John Henry’s face seem to indicate that this is what he was looking for, or beyond what he was looking for.
And I can’t wait to see what happens with the grappling hook!
The cell with JHH’s face in the dowser… That’s beautifully and effectively done! Like crosshairs on the center if his head – and the star.
Hmm… so when he put the red jewel in the dowser back in the previous chapter, he was looking for other occurrences of that type of jewel? Interesting.
By the way, I’ve made several comments on my way through the archives so far, but I have neglected to say how astonishing the art is. (In part, perhaps, because all the prior commenters have already said so much about the art by the time I come along.) Every page has so much to it, and your attention to detail is fantastic. I’m in awe.
“Angel Eyes”, mmh? Another shout-out to Sergio Leone?
None better I’d say. 😉
why not?
I am not sure I follow what is going on. What does Hunter see? Is Vane reaching for her grappling hook, or a gun? Who is firing the grappling hook?
Love the details on the looking glass and the public, by the way.

Oops, he’s holding her right arm, and we can’t see her left. I guess it could be her? Really hard to tell.
Beautiful artwork!
Thanks for the update!
I think he redirected her aim and the grappling hook went elsewhere. But where it is going might be worse than where she intended it to go, who knows?

Am I the only one wondering who “we” refers to?
Nope, I was wondering the same thing
Perhaps. I took her meaning as, “We always clash. That makes for an exciting show. Which is all you really care about Hunter.”
So is she done trying to kill him now? Also, is it a coincidence that “Broken Sky” jewels are bright blue and so are his eyes?
The image in the jewel looks a little like a schematic… hrm…
