Boss Lady, you really shouldn’t be apologizing for having a life with real life concerns and such. You give us amazing art on a weekly basis. No one has any grounds for complaining. And hopefully your kid is okay.
Also? This page is gorgeous. I love your color palate for this town. And just your use of color in general.
Annie’s right. You could always move South where, except for IT stuff, you can fix just about anything good enough for a while with duct tape (OK, not tires exactly, but patch kits LOOK rather like duct tape, so …)! No boilers needed, really.
What a feast of faces! I love the lighting in the hall and on the faces in that final cell! And the ice cream cone – I think they were invented at an expo or world’s fair, a combination of cookie and ice-cream (maybe two neighboring booths?) – a wonderful historical detail. As usual I can hear the hub bub and laughter in the hall – the echo of the large space.
And you could almost miss Vane Black in this last cell – even with the red hair you manage to draw our eyes everywhere ELSE. And then I notice the contrast of her garments with the finery everyone else is wearing. And is that JHH way up in the front on the left, dressed better than everyone else? So John and Vane are at opposite ends of the fashion spectrum, with everyone else in between…
And the device again – I can hardly wait to see where this goes.
Overall, this page sweeps us from one setting to the other – lovely cinematic movement. So much of the artistry in classic movies (not just westerns) permeates NTO.
And yeah – what Annie said! Sorry you have been having such a tough time, and we are hopefully none of us so spoiled as to have any trouble waiting a little longer for our weekly fix of NTO.
Thanks, Erin, for the latest Patreon share. Tantalizing hints provided there – great for the overactive imagination! For those of you who are not yet Patreon patrons of NTO, as little as a dollar a month helps support Erin, and you not only get the pleasure of knowing you’re helping the project continue (and helping Erin’s family through the time honored tradition of patronizing the arts) but you also get these wonderful additional goodies from time to time. Today we got the full exhibition poster to read… Fun stuff at the bottom…
I hope you’re having a better time this week, Erin!
And you know, although I’ll gladly join in the chorus of this being another beautiful page, I’m rather curious why none of my fellow readers wondered about the following yet:
a) What did Hunter do to Miss Dauterive, did he kill her or did he do anything at all? (Yes, yes, I know, the answer to that naturally is that we’ll have to wait and see what Erin will feed us)
b) How did the device get to the expedition, did Hunter donate / loan it? It seems to me as if he’s standing a bit apart from the crowd, with who could be the curator of the expedition. But if he did donate it, then for what reason?
c) What the heck is that device?
d) And most importantly: Is Vane there for the device, or for Hunter? Or probably both?
Jeepers, even with all the poring over details I was doing, I managed to miss Vane until she was pointed out! I find my eyes drawn repeatedly to the surround of the page where the light just glows with the suggestion of glass in a gallery. Love all the details of the people and their expressions, you can hear the hubbub!
The crowd scene at the bottom was so enthralling that I almost missed Vane!

This is probably one of the best pages you’ve done…possibly the best. Marvelous.
For some reason, the third panel cracked me up.
Also, blown tires suck. Forever.

Boilers and heaters never break until you need them most. Hope you weren’t stuck too long when the tire blew out. 🙁
This comic is always worth waiting for!

Patience Lleyn, patience.

Wonders animal, vegetable, and mineral? I wonder if the exhibition will be presented by a modern major-general.
