Talk about a smooth operator… This guy wrote the book on it! Thanks for the update. Your artwork never ceases to impress me. The facial expressions are perfect and the little touches like her hair falling across her glasses almost make it seem that you drew these from looking at an actual photograph. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours!
Take all of the time you want, Erin. For quality of this magnitude WE WILL WAIT. More time to study your Archives with a magnifying glass and nag all of my friends to read the website so they know why i’m blathering on about use of color, shading and expressions the way my niece gushes about My Little Pony and ‘friendship is magic’…. 😀
This is what happens when you discuss bloody murder one curtain away from the victim, Ms Dauterive! 😛
The way this is framed, it looks like Ms Dauterive actually lusts for Mr Hunter, and the latter is just giving her the finger. Am I reading this right?
Happy birthday to your son! He must be getting lotsa presents around these times every year… I hope he doesn’t overdose.
Take a rest during these merry dates! Happy holidays!
I believe you are. When she first appears it’s implied by hunter as he offers to “accompany you upstairs” should he lose the game, and when Ms Dauterive gets upset he mockingly suggests how “it would make a much better story if you lost your honor to the legendary outlaw in a card game” but then notes it’s not sporting to “bet something you were already looking to give away.” Much of her manner in speaking to him then suggested as much, and Hunter is pretty good at reading people.
Sorry for double posting, but it also occurred to me that she is going to a lot of trouble to kill him, when you consider that she has followed him all this way. Considering who else has encountered him (particularly the Baron’s Crossing girls), Ms. Dauterive has less reason to hate him (she escaped with her life and only lost the necklace). It’s more likely possessive lust or jealousy that is motivating her pursuit and desire to see him dead, the bounty might be nice as well.
You know, the way his right hand is positioned right at the back of her neck and how he breaks off the kiss to look at the curtain (or rather, the hidden Miss Dauterive), makes me somewhat fear for Eliza’s wellbeing in the next page to come. I guess Hunter knows what Eliza intended to do, or he wouldn’t have grabbed her hand in the previous page, and the fearful look on her face as he kisses her seems to imply to me that she knows that the game is over.
Beautifully done page, Erin, and I can’t wait for the next one, but please, please, do yourself the favor and take the next week off. Everybody needs a break once in a while, and I’d rather wait a bit and have you back at 100% than want you to carry on with less and less energy to do so.
It’s his left hand on her neck, the right still holding her wrist. So i don’t think he plans to stick her with the pins, but he could pull them out of her fingers and cast them at Madam Dauterive. That would be a pretty snappy response! Oh and man, those are some serious bed-room eyes–makes me think of Elvis!
I hope Hunter didn’t stick those pins into Eliza during that kiss! If he did, that explains Miss Dauterive reaction in the last panel as she just saw Eliza die and she knows she’s next! ( Instead of being an expression of jealous rage. )
But hey maybe Hunter and Eliza will have a nice date instead; Christmas miracles can happen (until Vane crashes the party).
Ooo, PJF, I think you may have something there. The kiss of death? That would really suck. But we have to remember, John Henry, as Vane can be quite ruthless.
Enjoy your downtime, ma’am. Slow-downs and time to relax are good and needed things. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with us; your comic is always a bright spot in my day, and that of others.
Permission to take a week off for holidays and birthdays officially granted.
Man, he is so smooth. If I could woo all the female assassins my enemies send after me, the way he can, I wouldn’t be on the run for my life right now. Women! Can’t live with ’em, can’t stand still or they’ll stick you with a poisoned sewing needle, amirite?
Damn, I keep looking at the last five panels and I think Elisa is dead. In Panel six the eyes of Elisa have a startled look, not so much by John Henry’s kiss, but more like being stuck with a pin. One that is coated with poison! Panel seven, the final sleep has taken hold, and Elisa’s gasp is squelched by Hunter’s tight lip lock on her and crushing hold around her. Panel eight, Elisa falls limp as a rag doll, her last breath leaving her body. John Henry coldly stairs at his next target, Veronique. Yes, all speculation, but I guess we’ll all find out after the Christmas break. Again Erin, fabulous art.
Hey don’t overtax yourself. Just enjoy the Holidays.
Have a happy christmas and my the new year bless you with good fortune!

ok that move was old fashioned James Bond. I’m a bit worried about how Eliza will take any further outcome of this…
What? A week off you say?

Just when you think the art and story can’t get any better than its superlative self, you get this treat in your browser! LOVE LOVE LOVE>:)

Family first and foremost!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Erin!

Oh my god, you have no clue how happy I am that I’m not the only one with that suspicion.
Or else she’s seeing the outline of a very pale rider with a gun in the window.

Final panel: what’s that Veronique is holding to her lips? Suicide vial or blow-dart tube?
Ah crap-sack. It’s just her gritted teeth. My fault for reading on a tablet.
