Yikes! What’s next? surely she can’t remove his head, put it on ice and rebuild his heart and then put him back together??!!! Whoa, if she does all that, I am seriously scared of her!
I think Ms Black has feelings for Diamonds – and enough admiration for the steed to resurrect Diamonds for the horses sake more than her Vane desires, I just hope the shot wasn’t in the jugular.
I don’t think those are scars. If you’re referring to panel 4, I believe it’s just her…scarf thing? I know there’s a name for those, but I can’t recall what it is.
Look to the final panel for clarification. It’s not scarring. It’s clothing at her neck.
Erin, you’re going all Mary Shelley (Frankenstein) on us. Of course it is getting closer to Halloween. 😉
It seems Vane’s quest to dispatch Hunter is taking deeper and deeper into darkness with strange science as her vehicle. And don’t forget folks, Flint is probably heading down the hill into town. NO FLINT. DON’T GO THERE, IT’S MADNESS!
About as much as Hunter inflicted on her, probably. I’m sure Diamonds is fast and all, but with the amount of time she’s spent rebuilding him and Hunter’s magic fire horse, it would probably be faster for her if she got a new horse (and if Hunter really wanted to escape her, he would have). She’s always stopped when Diamonds was injured, so in regards to him at least, I’d say that she’s no colder than Hunter.
Awesome? More like awful. A lot of you seem to be thinking that Diamonds doesn’t want to die, but really, all she’s doing is prolonging his suffering. Remember when Hunter (who abuses the horse just as much as she does) severed his foot? She turned to the horse and said, “Not yet, old boy.” (quoting from memory, don’t quote me on it ;)) She needs Diamonds, otherwise she’d have let him die.
I’m not quite convinced. If she cared nothing about Diamonds and saw him only as a means of pursuing Hunter, why not just get a different horse whenever he got injured?
I’m not saying that she does not care about Diamonds, she cares for him just as much as Hunter cares for Diamonds, which means that for both of them, their egotism always comes before the horse (see when she deliberately blew up Diamonds because she wanted to get at Hunter).
Ultimately, for both, the horse is a means to an end, no matter how much they care about him. Why did she not get a different horse? It’s in the comic. Diamonds is the fastest horse there is, only Hunters’ unnatural steed can beat him. Also, he’s intelligent, loyal and tough as nails. Swapping him for another horse would be like swapping a Porsche for a Beetle.
Loyal to whom though? You can’t exactly serve two masters when one of them is kind of trying to kill the other.
And yes, he’s not her primary concern. That’s obviously Hunter (though there’s been a few times now where she could have just shot him without stopping to chat, so I’m not entirely convinced that dead is all she wants him, there’s got to be another piece to the puzzle).
Diamonds trumps the other characters for her though, aside from maybe her own convenience (whether or not it’s convenient to stop and keep rebuilding a Porsche is more convenient that just driving by in a trusty, brand new Beetle with brand new tires and no engine problems is debatable). Her attachment at this point seems to be more sentimental than practical.
Not that sentiment is always a good thing (see: destructive, undead lady roaming the countryside and racking up collateral damage).
I think it’s about time to change this comic name. To something like “The trials and tribulations of Diamonds the horse”. And tell the rest of a story from his perspective: -Oh. Here goes my other leg… And I think I may be burning again… Is that my liver over there?
I just depressed myself a bit because I had a wonderful (at least I thought) idea for the art contest and I have spent days working and working on it… but I just can’t do it 🙁 I’m not skilled enough. I thought I could compensate for my lack of ability to draw humans, but I just can’t. If you’d like me to share the idea and/or base template so you can take the idea and do it for yourself with your a-million-times-better-than-I drawing skill, I’d be happy to share. ^ _ ^ Honestly the main reason I’m sad about this is I was really hoping to surprise you with something neat. Maybe next time I guess. :-/ Thanks again for telling such a great story with such beautiful art!
Oh, I like this.
Yikes! What’s next? surely she can’t remove his head, put it on ice and rebuild his heart and then put him back together??!!! Whoa, if she does all that, I am seriously scared of her!
“How tough”…? What are you planning, you crazy, grey-skinned scientist woman?
Holy crap…
FUCKIN TOUGH YEAH
GET UP AND KICK SOME ASS, DIAMONDS
Looks like she does have some humanity left still then. I’m glad Diamonds won’t be leaving us yet.
And a thought just occured to me. She’s doing the exact same thing as Hunter is. Not letting the horse die. Does she even realize that?
I think Ms Black has feelings for Diamonds – and enough admiration for the steed to resurrect Diamonds for the horses sake more than her Vane desires, I just hope the shot wasn’t in the jugular.
Hm, so the scars on her neck indicate… what?
I don’t think those are scars. If you’re referring to panel 4, I believe it’s just her…scarf thing? I know there’s a name for those, but I can’t recall what it is.

hunter hung her remember
and brought her back to life, so could be anything really
and now i feel dumb for not realizing it was her scarf and that the guy befor eme pointed it out…
CptNerd, I thought they were scars too, but it’s lace on a cravat or the like.
Seriously…. at this point just make a full robot horse, I mean damn…
I have some good news for you, man in the past!

I actually find this quite frightening rather than awesome.
Hunter’s right. Is she that cold? How far is she going to push the horse? How much more suffering is she going to inflict on Diamond and other people?
About as much as Hunter inflicted on her, probably. I’m sure Diamonds is fast and all, but with the amount of time she’s spent rebuilding him and Hunter’s magic fire horse, it would probably be faster for her if she got a new horse (and if Hunter really wanted to escape her, he would have). *looks at axe*
*looks at ice*
*moment of realization*
Is she really…?
Are you f@#$%&g kidding me?!
THATS AWESOME!

Holy Mary Shelly and Boris Karlof too!!!! Vane’s not thinking of doing what I fear she is doing!
Great story Erin!!
Just read through this yesterday. What is it that makes a story of an evil “man” and the revenant who pursues him so interesting?
I think it’s about time to change this comic name.

Aw! Don’t be discouraged. I’d love to see it! I bet it’s fantastic.
Many thanks for the kind words.
I don’t care what you have to do, YOU BRING DIAMONDS BACK!
Forget Hunter vs Ms. Black! Get on Team Diamonds!
