Due to a great lack of lumber in the wide open plains of Kansas and other utterly flat areas, more often than not, people would either build sod houses, or create den homes in the side of hills. Sod houses, of course, over time and what with Kansas grass growing the way it does, would BECOME den homes… But no, no hobbits. Just the wide open plains :p
The placeholder comic was awesome, but it’s great to have the main story back. I hope this means you are also finding parenthood to be something that agrees with you? Juggling fatherhood and writing is tough enough, so you have my admiration for managing the tougher, and often more thankless, roles of mother and artist. Keep up the good work.
Welcome back Squidbunny, not that you ever left. Hope all is well and new arrival is doing okay as are the rest of you. First panel looks like a scene from WWI. Nice panel lay outs too. Hunter looks shot to pieces. And Miss Black?
Woo! Back to NTO-prime. Enjoyed the other stories too, but it’s made me hungry to have more Hunter & Black. Not looking like the best day for Mr. Hunter here. Expecting it’ll probably get worse.
Oh, I forgot to say I checked and, definitely, it’s not “Quakers”. It might be “Quarantine”, which somehow reminds me of Roland Deschain and the super-flu…
… and I tremble with fear. I hope –I really, really, REALLY hope– this is not gonna go Dark-Toweresque. I know you can do way better than Mr. King, Erin 🙂
@My_Little_Annie: (For some unknown reason I can’t reply to your comment) To each his own, but I quite disliked Dark Tower’s last 3 books. And that’s a lot of books. Last one was, IMO, a complete waste of time.
Next Town Over is way much better than these 3 books. But again that’s my opinion and of course you don’t have to agree. 🙂
Well the detail level’s hardly up to looking decent that large as it wasn’t intended, and the one with the hoof’d need some reverse engineering as the frog’s jumping off into the gutter, but I dunno. If folks really want it and I have a few minutes I might make that available, sure.
And Vane must be near based on the scroll work on the borders. Just not “at hand” or the scrolls would be larger. And I’d like to think of Genevieve as a Preview of Coming Attraction.
I’m late to the party, but I’m adoring just about everything about this comic.
This scene strongly reminds me of a visit I once made to Rhyolite, Nevada. Rhyolite is a ghost town in the mountains above Death Valley, with the crumbling remains of some once very fine buildings. I happened to be there during an icy February downpour. Some others in my group refused even to get out of the car, but I felt compelled to walk through the whole place. Gray ghost town in the high desert, with the wind speaking through the ruins… I about froze my ass off before saner people dragged me back to the car. 😀
Mr. Hunter looks a little worse for wear…
Are those… hobbit holes?
More seriously, this looks awesome. I love the steam coming off him.
Thankye!

Thank you kindly for the well-wishings.

Does the stone have “quarantine” written on it?
I had read that as “Quakers”, but I’ll need to take a new look at it 🙂
I will confirm that it doesn’t say Quakers.

Hey hey now Sai, don’t be dissing Dark Tower!

I believe you are correct, bla. Seems to be quarantine.
Aw, and so close to having frog stew…
The frogpuddlefirehoof image is beautiful.
Any chance of that becoming available
as a large downloadable wallpaper?

it’s pretty cool, actually, and the colors would be nice as a background.
So if you have time, sure! 🙂
Whoa! Hunter looks pretty ragged here. can’t wait for next week!
woooo, so worth the wait and all the in-between adventures, excellent in their own “write” as they were.
Much obliged. 😀
I can imagine the hissing sound as the rain hits the horse’s flames.
We’re getting another glimpse of JHH’s spine-length scar here too. Cool.
Don’t hurt the dog JHH or I’ll hate you forever!!

Is it just me or is the art style slightly different? it looks more watercolor-y
Considering it’s raining pretty hard, that would be understandable.
/Badum-tiss :O)
Oh man, his arm looks like it’s about ready to pop off. Might not get much help in that town, either.
Welcome back, off to a great start!
Thank you kindly!
I wanna say that’s a pretty sizable graveyard on the hill in the background. Seems fitting for such a ruined-looking place. 😈
Nice catch.
