So her shootin’ irons are water based (H20+caustic potash=explosive release of gas) rather than fire based. Nice to know if you’re hunting a fire mage.
Like how she turned that horse into a steampunk cyborg (or zombie), all she needs is a smithy for the heavier equipment. However, this update makes me wonder how much of the specialized tools, parts and supplies she needs she actually carries around with her (being rare on the frontier and in the wilds).
{ … “That hawk,” he gestured indignantly, “has said something uncouth about your mother.”
“Ah, then my honor demands I defend her good name myself.”
“Indeed it does.”
“Do I have a feather?”
“No.”
“Tehlu hold and-” I bit off the rest of what I was going to say at his disapproving look. “You never make it easy, do you?”
“It’s an annoying habit I picked up from a student who was too clever for his own good.” He smiled. “What could you do even if you had a feather?”
“I’d bind it to the bird and lather it with lye soap.”
Ben furrowed his brow, such as it was. “What kind of binding?”
“Chemical. Probably second catalytic.”
A thoughtful pause. “Second catalytic…” He scratched at his chin. “To dissolve the oil that makes the feather smooth?”
I nodded. … }
Have not been able to get this out of my head since reading this page, so now I inflict. Properly credited to one Patrick Rothfuss, from The Name of the Wind ISBN 13:987-0-7564-0474-1 (at least the paperback one which I use to annoy people with quotes).
I don’t know if you have ever read Ruins of Ambrai and The Mageborn Traitor but GRRM has nothing on Melanie Rawn. It is now 15 years between books. In the interval I have MADE A PERSON who is on her way into 6th grade.
I have not read those … and now I don’t want to. I am bad at staying engrossed in things while waiting interminable amounts of time for their next installment.
I absolutely LOVE the panel border in this one!
It’s also great to see Vane tinkering. I love a good tinkerer character.
Thank you kindly.
Agreed…border = woot woot! And lye-bearing bullets? Neat!

Guess it’s a good thing she’s out in a desert. Dropping her in a river could be very bad.
Savvy! 😀
Is that a bullet press on the left in panel six?
It is indeed. 🙂
superb art

I must admit that as much as love the action pages, I’m enjoying the slower pace. It’s nice to se Miz Black in her element.
Definitely agreeing with the chain border. So, so nice.

I want Doors of Stone, already! But I’m not going to complain; he’s right zippy with releases relative to, like, Martin.

You ever hear about a card game called “Bang!”? It’s western-themed but you need more than three people for it to be fun.
