And you just know he probably got shot in the same exact spot. Or maybe it was his familiar horse, animals around Vane don’t seem to live long fulfilling lives…
Now all that’s left is to find a song to superimpose over this scene. There’s Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Cold Shot” and Mick Jagger’s “Gun”, but my personal pick is Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name”.
I don’t think that’s the issue so much as that she has a bunch of bullets on her that will spectacularly explode should they come into contact with water.
There was a panel in my script where Vane addressed not expecting Diamonds, with his new iron front clip, to swim, but having her talk unnecessarily seemed assaultingly uncharacteristic and I didn’t include it.
Well, now, as long as it’s not an *electric* horse, fording shouldn’t pose any more hazard than a bit of rust down the line if you don’t dry it off properly. It might put out the steam boiler, though, if you get too deep. How is that bastard powered, anyway?
That’s quite a bit of blood there. After getting gut shot with the grappling hook earlier I’m surprised he’s got any left! I’m curious to see exactly how he’s been healing himself. He went from cauterized gut wound to well healed scar in a relatively short amount of time. If he’s using magic to heal himself why the scars? Why not heal himself completely?
Well being a nerd and a roleplayer I could come up with at least two ideas why he still has scars; Maybe his healing is more like regeneration, he speeds it up so he still get scars. Maybe the price of healing himself is a reminder of his mortality via scars.
Ooookay, as for music in this scene, I thing Jethro Tull’s “I am your gun” would work well. And once again Miss Black has hit her mark, which I think is harder to do from the back of a moving robot horse then running down some stairs.
Yes, that is a lot blood This makes, what, three times Van has nailed Hunter? So why doesn’t he die?! He’s a demon? Only our artist/writer know that, and she’s not giving anything away. You know how to keep an audience.
Why is *this* the panel where I finally catch up with all of the story? Now I’m just like all of the other suckers waiting a whole week to get the next bit of story. It’s a cruel, cruel world in which I live!
For what it’s worth, I am completely and utterly on Hunter’s side. I’ve been rooting for him since around Book 2. I want him to escape and complete his mission (I’m convinced he has one.), and I’m a little gutted that he’s been wounded again.
He got shot … again! My favorite anti-hero thus far (and I am pretty picky about my anti-heroes), is shot AGAIN! I wonder why doesn’t he return fire? For all we know, John Henry Hunter is an accomplished warlock and could toast missy Liquid-Bang Bullets to a very even crisp. Or could he?
I’m starting to feel sorry for Hunter. Then I remember his propensity for burning down every building that houses someone who annoys him. Something that would lead to the gallows, if I recall correctly.
I really like the flame on the trees, but I have seen how even a small camp fire would illuminate a good portion of the trees facing the fire. This is a big fire.
No Little Anne, Vane’s eyes are fire orange that I can see in all the other drawings of her. I bet she had some beautiful blue eyes before John Henry brutalized her. Such a mystery, only flash backs.
Hey, just thought of another music track to put to this page. (All Those) Burning Bridges from Kelley’s Hero’s. Look it up. 😉
I like this webcomic. Coincidentally, it comes right while my gaming group is doing a Savage Worlds: Deadlands campaign, and this fits so perfectly with that theme.
I’m enjoying the character development, watching motivations unfold.

I don’t think you can ford a river with a robot horse.

Both are sticking points.

That makes total sense!

I got the impression he wasn’t ‘healing’ himself so much as sealing the wound with his fire.

He’s a demon. She’s an undead Terminator. They don’t get along at all!
Wow. I like this one.
I think he’s going to need another bath after this… 🙁
That…. is one ANGRY woman o.o

Because he loves her :p Is why he still wears the ring, asks for red haired chicks, and is in no rush to kill her. Duh. Men are suckers that way.
I can’t agree more. In my life there is a red haired blue eyed girl with whom I share the same… relationship.
I’m a sucker.
She tries to kill you on a regular basis, but you avoid incinerating her in a blazing inferno because you love her?
How stupidly Shakespearian romantic… I suggest Kevlar armor as a Valentine day gift.

“smoke on the water, the fire (on the bridge)”
Why oh why won’t Hunter die??
Oh, if anyone DOESN’T know it–
Deep Purple’s song-

I want to make some sort of joke about burning bridges… but all I can do is stare at Vane’s burning eyes. Is it the firelight… or NOT?

It’s like getting to watch only a minute of a fabulous movie…and then it turns itself off! Aaarg! Why does good art take time?? 🙂
Because it IS good art. And anything worth doing is worth doing good. 🙂

I’ve read what there is of this comic three times since I came upon it the other day, and ugh, I’m hooked. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
(And I personally love the fact that both Miss Black and Hunter seem to be antiheroes.)
