Objection. I just think Vane had enough agony in her (un?)life, that there is nothing left. It grinded away the michievious smile we saw in a flashback panel, burned away her ability to feel pain and her morals… She looks like she is allready dead, and even amongst the pale the rings beneath her eyes are unusual.
Whats left is something akin to human(?) predator drone. The desire for revenge against Hunter seems to fuel her now, driving her past extreme obstacles, no matter who or what is in the way: she will get Hunter, and she will have her revenge.
At least thats how I interprete it.
And Hunter… Well… Since I am still quite certain that he is the one that led to Ms Blacks transformation into The Pale Rider I think he has to redeem himself somehow. Redemption in death seems to be one of his… options right now. But then… every time Vane had him cornered He deliberatly took some punishing to get her out of the town she found him in. Either he doesn’t like civillain casualties, or he is set to take upon himself the full extend of The Pale Riders fury, so she won’t let it loose on someone else.
…Urg, good job Erin, I am still not sure whom one should root for.
First of all: that was written at 2am my time, so sorry for bad spelling and so forth. Well, yrah I might give Hunter enough credit. But the thought on him trying to redeem himself was kind of born when he hanged her. Let me leaborate. From all what we seen MS Black is a mayor thorn in his side, his most persistant hunter. Undead and born from fire she may be, he would have had the opportunity to finsih her off for good back there. Or at least incapitate her for a larger amount of time.
Then the… situation with the cart full of explosives. He did notice her passing through town, looking out of the window. And though he did find time to say goodbye to his company, he strode into what was quite blandly an ambush.
I am guessing there is still some sort of affection for Vane in him left. From what was seen in the flashback panels they were at the very least closely acquainted. And though his attitued and manner of speech conveys arrogance, he still tries to talk and reason with Vane. When he took Diamonds from her it sounded almost like he was apologizing, even though she shot Hearts and it was probably within his right to take him.
I may be giving him too much credit, but I would say it’s wrong not to give him credit at all.
Here’s my theory having seen the flashback. Vane and Hunter were married. Vane kicks the bucket probably in a fire started by Hunter in their house. Hunter feels guilty and resurrects Vane who does not want to be “alive” and the only way to break the spell is to kill Hunter. All she wants is to rest in Peace and Hunter won’t let her because he loves her too much. And of course the family horses got drug into the mix as it looks like Diamonds was Vane’s horse.
wow. this comic is beautiful. absolutely everything about it; the art style, the story, the dialogue (or lack thereof), the characters, the colors, the layout, absolutely everything. love this comic! it’s going to be a long two months for me…
This page; it really gives that feeling that the lot of them are stuck in a wheel of events that keeps on turning; none of them are getting out alive and unscarred. Especially at this point.
♥
I get it now. This story is not about them but about a cyborg horse!…right?
She isn’t letting the horse rest yet? Poor thing.
😮 Holy moly. This is the page that finally made me comment. This is simply exquisite. Wow.
Thank you so much! 🙂
Remember the flashback at the end of “Duck, You Sucker”?
that is all? I need more pages! when do the new page came out????
Oof. I hate to break this to you but you may want to read this.
lovin’ it! and not in the mc donalds overweight way 😛
FFFFFFF…that agony’s palpable. Guess Vane’s the only one exempt. 😐

I agree completely. 🙂
Though perhaps her hunger for revenge is a different kind of agony from that of the others?
Also, I think you might be giving Hunter too much credit. Hasn’t he had plenty of opportunities alone with Vane to take his licks?

Aw shit, the spelling is even worse in this one.
My apologies.
No worries about the spelling, and again, I do agree.
Hunter does seem like a glutton for Vane’s punishment. Why, exactly, remains to be seen. 😮
I give him a fair amount of credit too, and I think that might be one of my favorite things about this comic. 😀
My first web comic, and i have to say i love it.
Funny how the animals always suffer when John’s around.
Anyway, i can’t wait for more.
Thank you so much!
Great comic as always. I think this might be my favorite page currently. The whole thing is splendidly done, especially the first to panels.
Bluuuuh~! I gotta say, i’m particularly enamored by the panel bordering in this strip! You really outdid yourself!

Solid theory! 🙂
Maybe this past event contributed to her demise?

Thank you so much, and hopefully SNAKE will tide you over. It has a lot in common with NTO.
awesome. looking forward to SNAKE then

Man, I hope *I* get the chance to find someplace where I can bleed and reminisce.
Hell, you’re just on another level of art.
Ten to one says there’s a picture of her in the watch…
Is the tree aginst which he’s leaning… the same tree in the picture??
There seem to also be the same fruits (peaches?) littering the ground.
