He’s using the heat to cauterize the wound. Smart. Shame he doesn’t have a disinfectant to go along with it. Wonder what the deal with the horse is. Not sure if its gone or sent away till further notice. Guess it begs the questions why his other horses haven’t gone through the same thing.
Not sure how much good that would do, cauterization i mean, judging by the placement of his wound the fellow is missing a good chunk of his small and large intestine, and maybe even a little chunk of liver and stomach.
But then he would die from the lack of a cohesive system of intestines and a large chunk of missing stomach. This fellow needs a very skilled surgeon (for the times, an AMAZINGLY skilled surgeon) fast.
True. Though, to be fair concerning the surgeon, if he can have his ability with fire, there isn’t really anything to say there can’t be somebody with the power to heal major injuries like that.
My read on it was that the dark magic disintegrates in the full sunlight. Diamonds doesn’t disintegrate because he was a natural (albeit extremely gifted) horse. I guess that’s one advantage of cybernetics over magic: doesn’t disintegrate in daylight. (No alliteration intended.)
Eh, maybe he’s actually doing it for a moral reason. He slowed down and got shot at just to tell Vane that she should put Diamonds out of his misery– so maybe this was just “euthanasia.” It could be that JHH has learned bringing stuff back from the dead isn’t so cool/nice.
This guy took a grappling hook straight through his intestines, and still had the power to create a “firewall” (heh heh), ride away at top speed, and pull the weapon out of his body. He should be DEAD or dying. I think we’re seeing JHH’s level of true power rather than his limitations. LOVE the tree!!
It’s funny that you mentioned D&D, since, like, halfway through, I thought this was based on Deadlands, you know, a Huckster, a Harrowed Gunner, and that kind of magic, it just feel, well, right
gee you’re looking tired mr cowboy man… oh, yeah that… kinda forgot about that…. you don’t happen to be undead too do you? No?
on a related note, totes cheering for the dame. The interaction between the characters seems to indicate that she was horribly wronged in the past by the male lead, still gonna be sad to see’m go tho’

That looks like it stings.

Unless he cauterized it the whole way through, judging by how he heated the cord too.

heh, its funny. He’s probably the bad guy but if he didn’t carry so much charisma, I’d probably be rooting for lil miss sunshine.

Well, looks like Vane finally did a serious number on him. If I were her, after all this time, I’d be pretty bloody satisfied.
My guess is that either the spell power or the horse life force was spent, or he’s too messed up to mantain the effect.

No choice of “neither”?
I picked JHH in lieu of that.
Wow. Supernaturally powered man running out of blood/power.
The horse disappearing in dwindling flame is awesome.
Seconded! Glad Hunter didn’t blow away like that…yet…
The blood soaking his clothes (and dripping from his boot!) is pretty great too. 🙂
Interesting… we finally get a way to see some limitations of this fellows abilities.
wow, that looks like it feels GREAT
oH GOD I FELT THAT :O

Fair point, though I’m wondering just how old he is and what sort of magic he uses now.
So many questions.
*hobby worldbuilding, insatiable curiosity*
Haha! “Wait, hold that grappling hook in your torso a moment longer, I gotta gaze at this gorgeous tree for a moment.”
In D&D we call it Second Wind. Hope he does heal that somehow, because it looks awfully painful 🙁
Go Mr. Hunter!

Somewhere, someone is playing “A Horse With No Name” and the record just scratched.
Yesss, that’s some cinemagic right there.

I find myself rooting for both Vane and Hunter. It’s weird.
Horsey dead…?
This has to be the most BEAUTIFUL works I’ve EVER read/seen. This page is FANTASTIC.
The second and third panel are achingly beautiful yet heartbreaking at the same time. RIP Outlaw/Clubs.
That almost looks like a person in the clouds in the first panel. I better be careful or I’m going to be seeing Jesus on Toast soon.
