I like this page. I’ll admit it’s not my favorite page. But I still like it. The flaming horse is amazing of course.
I’ve already showed this comic off (several times over) to several of my friends. Every time I stumble on a new comic, I read a few pages, If I like it I share it.
I really do appreciate you getting the word out — I just figured I was overdue for some kind of art tantrum and tried to minimize it and confine it to the single most disappointing page of all time. (Pretend I said that last bit in a GlaDOS voice; it sounds better like that.)
This page is only bad because the rest of your pages are so damn extraordinary. Compared to most webcomics I read, this is still way above par. Next Town Over is the comic I look forward to most, simply because of the sheer quality of all the updates. There’s never a dull week in this world XD
Great page, nonetheless. Its still beautiful, and very well done. And as its been said before, your are is awe inspiringly amazing, the previous page had been especially so.
It was hard week waiting for this, what with exams and all, but it was worth it, definitely. Now to wait for next week…..great….
What’s funny is that last page is not a fav of mine, either, and people seemed to really like it, which made me think maybe I just critically lack objectivity and I was glad I didn’t whine about that one. But this one…? I just hate it too much.
Very much obliged, anyhow, for the kind words! 🙂
See how his right hand is always near that beautiful flaming mane? My theory is, he’s probably got something to hold on to. Maybe the mane itself. But magic sounds so much cooler.
You don’t really, ideally, hang onto anything when you’re sitting a horse provided it’s under your control (this is a bit of magic even I can do, I guess? [sitting a horse without hanging onto something, I mean; reliably controlling most horses is easier said than done]). He does have his left hand sunk into the Outlaw’s mane, though, yeah. Just in case.
Damn, Vane’s fearless! I guess she has no qualms with being run off a cliff…it’ll probably just slow her bad self down.
I’m more than willing to wait for an update, especially if the delay maintains quality and allows you to meet your own high standards. That said, I couldn’t tell that this page was lacking! 🙂
(And the last page, with the panels overlaid on her face, and her eye showing as panel and background-for-others both — woah, that was just awesome design.)
I saw this and almost peed myself. I haven’t followed the whole story line, but flaming horse? American southwest? Bad-ass chick with dual pistols and some obviously magical stuff going on? I’m working on the second book in a very similar series and after seeing so many coincidences, and all of it executed so much more awesomely in a graphic form – hell, I almost just quit!
I just checked out your blog. There are striking similarities! Isn’t it always vaguely depressing to find someone else doing something similar…? I am depressed, right now, reading this synopsis! Don’t quit, though! The American west is big enough to accommodate all the magic & flaming horses! 😀
Hey, thanks for taking a look! Either way, I will definitely go back and read your comic from the beginning.
I have never written a review of a comic on my site, but yours looks amazing, and I think it might be something worth doing. If that is something you’d be interested in, please shoot me an email at mviolante@airampublications.com. I’m not 100% sure how I would do it, but the concept is very intriguing, and the similarities in storyline, etc., might help out readers that are looking for similar material!
…just found the comic, and devoured the archive. At the risk of sounding the hopeless fanboy, this is creepy, beautiful, thrilling, engaging stuff. Can’t WAIT to see where you’re taking us!
I’m so in love with how you draw horses and clothing. It’s funny how artists will be praised for their least favorite pieces and criticized for their faves sometimes. But I gotta say, this page looks excellent, I’m not seeing what’s wrong with it at all. Loving the purple shading here, too.
Thanks — feedback from another comic artist is always extra-validating; maybe this page wasn’t quite as bad as I made out … or maybe I just wanted everyone to rush in and tell me it was okay. 😀
New fan here: This was the first page of the comic that I stumbled across. I read your disclaimer and thought, “If this is the crappy page, then the rest of this must be amazing!”. I am glad that I was proven correct.
Ha! After the fourth or fifth time I perused the page looking , it suddenly struck me that the tail looks like a rocket exhaust., and it made me laugh. 😀 Clear for Take-off!

Heh. Artists are allowed to talk about their art any way they want. It’s how artists are supposed to be.
I enjoy it, Art and all. So I pass it along to my friends & family, They may not comment on here but I know they enjoy it too.

D’aww. Thank you very kindly.

It was an honour.
My only question is… how does he hold on the horse? Particularly when it’s about to jump over that chasm?
Hmm. MAAAAAAAGIC.
Also: Like everyone else is saying, the art is still top notch.
I guess.

Well I mean if he’s holding on to the mane itself, as in, the mane that is made of fire, I’m pretty sure magic is a requirement for holding on anyway.

Bareback riding, even without reins, is a real thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Pg1EbXbZO4
…however, I wouldn’t recommend doing it on a wild mustang that is /on fire/
Ms. Annie, how would you recommend riding a wild mustang that was on fire?
Damn, Vane’s fearless! I guess she has no qualms with being run off a cliff…it’ll probably just slow her bad self down.

Good to know!
Same here. Hate? This page? What’s to hate??? O_o

Looks darn good to me!
Thanks, Zee!

Oh, and I fucking love the horse, if for no other reason than it’s exactly how I pictured Alsvior in my head all along.
…just found the comic, and devoured the archive. At the risk of sounding the hopeless fanboy, this is creepy, beautiful, thrilling, engaging stuff. Can’t WAIT to see where you’re taking us!
Thank you so much! I’ll look forward to having you around.
The way you draw that horse makes me wish fire horses were real…
I think there is a part of all of us that wishes fire horses were real.
I had a fire horse once. Actually, he was a flaming idiot and a hothead, but that’s pretty much the same thing, right? Anyway, not so cool.
I won’t lie, the last page made it into my gtalk status for days. People must know about this.
Wow! Thank you very kindly – plugs are always appreciated.

Silhouette-only horse blackness? I approve.
I wish I could say it was purely an aesthetic choice but it was largely for productivity/economy.
But I’m sure you wouldn’t know anything about that.
I know it’s the horse’s tail, but it looks like the bullet came flamin’ out of the horse’s butt.
Ha!
After the fourth or fifth time I perused the page looking , it suddenly struck me that the tail looks like a rocket exhaust., and it made me laugh. 😀
Clear for Take-off!
Is it just me, or does the landscape here remind anyone else of the Roadrunner cartoons?
Only MUCH more beautifully done!
