Rise Up My Firey Steed! Um, probably not, but that would be really cool. There’s really not enough info to tell whose arm that is. Maybe she’s actually his daughter and that’s the mother’s arm.Hmm?
Al’s right, it does look like a hip! The finger in the picture makes the hip look really small. Is Vane that skinny or is the brand that big? And if thats her it sure would give her even more reason to be pissed at him.
We saw her rise out of her own funeral fire. I guess it is save to say that this brand was part of how this did work. And we are putting some more *evil* weigths on Mr Hunters side. …grey and grey morality, hm?
He BRANDED her? OMG, Hunter deserves to die an extremely painful death. Unless she really, really deserved it. And anyway, she still shouldn’t be shootin’ innocent people whilst trying to kill him… oh man, even when I think I know who’s bad, I still don’t know who’s worse. On the plus side, totally looking forward to the resurrection of Outlaw. How cool is it going to look, seeing a black horse rise from the flames?
I’m thinking that no matter how evil she is it’s all to get back at him for something he did. He’s just too much of a smug (completely awesome) bastard to not have done something to her that demands retribution.
I liked the detail of what kind of sammiches they’re making! Wonder what Hunter packs for lunch? Probably a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and a thermos full of whiskey! Too bad he won’t get to enjoy it! That scoundrel.
It seems that the person being branded (presumably Vane) is not exactly struggling. So either she was drugged when Hunter branded her or she’s extremely masochistic.
Well that could lead to an interesting set-up. Perhaps he raised her to track down her killer, but she decided to hunt him instead, either for the memories of times long gone or for dragging her back from the Lands Beyond.
This is my second read through, and I’ve just noticed that the flashback panels look like they are from the same scene as the flashback from Sun Praire page 18? Makes me think that it has to be JHH branding Miss Black with a poker/fire iron….
I love the artwork, especially the layouts and panelling/borders. Absolutely beautiful. I put this comic on a par with my other favourite, Gunnerkrigg Court in both art and storytelling 🙂
We gonna see that burn on her arm? Have we already?
Uh….*is* that on her arm??; I think it’s on the same place as he’s putting it on the horse >__>
Yep. Brands go on the hindquarters not the shoulder.
I think maybe that’s his arm. The expression in the last panel looks like he’s grimacing through the pain.
I take that back. It’s not an arm or at least not his. He has hair on his arms.
looks more like the ass

Are you sure that is an arm? Looks more like a hip than an elbow.
I was thinking hip/butt too. Seems to make more sense if you’re branding something that way.
Thirding hip, yeah. Also, FREAKIN’ OW.
Oh snap, resurrection by fire?? 😯
@Zee: If Vane has that brand (and she looks mad enough that she just might), don’t we have precedent for something like that happening?
Lookback, Page 10. His horse has the same/similar branding on it’s flank. Thought I’d seen that somewhere before.
(Pst. See also Lookback, Page 2, and Sun Prairie page 7.)

Seem like she has good reasons too be pissed after all.
i think she had to be dead at the time
Based on the flashback in the smithy, I’d wager she was alive, if just.
We saw her rise out of her own funeral fire.
I guess it is save to say that this brand was part of how this did work.

Oh, also I do think she was branded at the same place the horse is being branded right now.
Ah well, I still have to see if I can recreate one of these characters in a roleplaying system of own choosing 😀
I can see why she would like to blast him into smithereens.
I’d really like to see the back story of these two.
You will. That’s a promise.
He BRANDED her? OMG, Hunter deserves to die an extremely painful death. Unless she really, really deserved it. I’d like to see a frustrated Hunter try to brand his brown bag lunch. “It’s MINE!”
Time-permitting you can count on this getting illustrated in the future.
As promised.
Win. And. Awesome.
This is all kinds of wonderful, Erin!
I liked the detail of what kind of sammiches they’re making! Wonder what Hunter packs for lunch? Probably a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and a thermos full of whiskey! Too bad he won’t get to enjoy it! That scoundrel.
Super win!
Can’t believe I missed this until now. Or maybe I saw it before and forgot about it… inexplicably. Wonderful.
D-does he brand everything he kills or something?? That’s awful!!
It seems that the person being branded (presumably Vane) is not exactly struggling. So either she was drugged when Hunter branded her or she’s extremely masochistic.
Just my opinion.
Or dead.
Of course, we don’t know if Hunter killed her.
Well that could lead to an interesting set-up. Perhaps he raised her to track down her killer, but she decided to hunt him instead, either for the memories of times long gone or for dragging her back from the Lands Beyond.
Or she’s one more material component of the spell he’s fixin’ to make.
