Hunter: Quickest douche in the West!

He should have his own theme song.

      Yes. You get on that.

Hunter’s temporary theme has been a rotating assortment of Johnny Cash and DeVotchKa. Alas none of them mention what a douche he is.

… some part of me is faintly disappointed that “douche” has rapidly become the de facto descriptor for him.

Perhaps ‘scoundrel’ is a better term than douche.

‘Scoundrel’ is good, or the old favourite ‘cad’. Both imply a level of charm over the top of the viciousness; cad arguably more so. ‘Douche’ simply implies unmitigated obnoxiousness – quite in keeping with such an inelegant term.

Exactly, scoundrel fits better. All he did was offer the wager, she chose violence. She cold have made a civilized counter offer, instead things are about to get, uncivil.

I wish I could still play the gee-tar. Also that I had any aptitude for composing. I’d make the best old timey western show intro tune ever.

And douche is just a temporary descriptor until such time as we get to see more of his motivations.

Oh, fun! Just found this through an ad on Goodbye Chains, and I REALLY like it so far. 8 pages isn’t a lot, but somehow you managed to pull me in from the get go! Very excited to see where it goes, and I ADORE your art style. 🙂

After seeing your concept art and such on Deviantart, I’m really interested to see how this story progresses.

And I really don’t see why people keep getting “douche” vibes from Hunter. In a real situation, meeting a guy like this, or even seeing him in a movie, I’d see that he is a smooth operator. I would think he has a dangerous charisma and a way about him that makes him seem like he could talk his way out of anything.

It’s probably because he has a facial structure commonly associated with villainous characters that most people are getting “creepy” vibes from him. If he was a clean cut pretty boy with with nicely permed hair he probably wouldn’t be getting such a negative reception.

Agreed! Also the vaguely villainous angle is … working as intended. But “Douche” was starting to sound like I’d somewhat missed my mark. 🙂

I think it’s because most kids these days are more interested in that ani-mana stuff than good, wholesome westerns. They forget that people were a lot more polite in those days, mostly because if you ticked someone off they were liable to shoot you.

I get more of a Doc Holiday/The Gentleman Gun-fighter vibe from him myself.
Well mannered enough that you want to like him, enough of a stone cold killer that he will look you in the eye, smile, complement your choice of apparel and shoot you all in five seconds.

Well, he’s not quite a psycopomp, but I suppose he’s good enough for now. Its only 8 pages in after all. I await more! Also, once I have a job again, donations will begin again.

Its great to know you draw the pencils out by hand! And the coloring is superb.
The douche comes across because of his smugness and the fact we really do not know much about him other than the wanted poster, maybe hes a good bad guy? Naa, somehow i do not think so! Keep up the great work!

PS, you have accomplished a lot with the limited pages, speaks VERY well of your story telling capabilities!

Yes! Make the face o’ disgust! Totally warranted!
…Sorry. The art here is fantastic, but Hunter’s a skeeze. Which is cool, he’s clearly not supposed to be a nice guy. He probably is charismatic and all…but still a skeeze and kinda douchey. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
